What's your story?
It’s Matt here. I could not have gotten through the past five+ years of sharing my story alone. From the very first person who said, “I believe you,” to the solicitor who helped me settle my case, I’ve been supported by kind and helpful people who were able to read my draft emails, give me their wisdom, listen during my stressed out moments and publicly provide backup when I needed it – sending additional letters, or using their socials to help increase pressure on organisations. The journey towards having my story validated has been a long process, with a great deal of support from others.
We are keen to hear your stories and connect.
We are dreaming of a network of narratives which form a body of witness to the abusive culture of Conversion Therapy and Exorcism within religious organisations in the UK. The first step for us is listening. We would love to provide a space where your personal story can be heard. You are welcome to submit your story of Conversion Therapy and/or Exorcism either anonymously or with the option to be contacted as part of our story gathering process.
We are hoping to share submitted stories here on this website in order to create a network of shared story. This space could become a place where others can feel validated and seen by recognising the patterns and feelings within shared story. We want to provide an opportunity for people to say: “This happened to me too.” We would not publish a submitted story on the website without express permission, and identifying details would need to be removed in most cases.
We are also seeking witnesses and examples which will help us to chart the history, locations, organisations and people who were (or are) involved in providing Conversion Therapy and Exorcism. We are looking for opportunities to connect stories from the same churches, denominations or areas which would back-up one anothers’ histories. We would not share stories without express permission.
We are looking to be guided by the wishes of those submitting stories – are you seeking to be heard and believed, do you want us to share your story more widely (anonymously) through our Stories page, are you looking for help submitting a complaint, and/or are you wanting guidance towards resources or helplines which can assist you? Let us know what we can do to help you on your journey with your own story.
You can share your story using the form below, or emailing us on
